Electrical Brackets – Sydney Metro Tunnel Project

In an ongoing project with Burndy Cable Supports for the Sydney and Melbourne Metro tunnels, we are conducting detailed analyses and assessments of numerous electrical brackets and supports to ensure their compliance with codes, specifications, and Australian standards. The analyses cover various critical factors, including:

  1. Weight of Cables and Ladders: We carefully evaluate the weight of the cables and ladders supported by the brackets to determine their impact on the structural integrity of the system.
  2. Wind Pressure due to Train Passage: Considering the piston effect caused by the passing trains, we assess the wind pressure exerted on the brackets, accounting for a wind pressure of 1500 Pa to ensure their stability and resistance.
  3. Wind Fatigue: The brackets are subjected to cyclic loading due to approximately four million train passings. We analyze their response to wind fatigue under a cyclic load of 750 Pa, ensuring their durability and long-term performance.
  4. Earthquake Load: To address the potential seismic activity in the tunnel, we assess the brackets’ ability to withstand earthquake loads, ensuring they can maintain their structural integrity and functionality during such events.
  5. Elevated Temperature Cases: Certain areas of the tunnel may experience elevated temperatures ranging from 450° to 1500°. We analyze the brackets’ response to these extreme temperature conditions to ensure their stability and integrity are maintained.

Design Compliance: Throughout the analysis and assessment process, we ensure that all anchorage requirements and ultimate stress design criteria are met in the bracket designs. This guarantees their ability to handle the specified loads and stresses without compromising safety or functionality.

FEA Stresses: The images provided showcase the finite element analysis (FEA) stresses of some of the brackets. These analyses provide valuable insights into the structural behavior and performance of the brackets under various loading conditions, helping us validate their design and make any necessary improvements.

At ABA Structures, we prioritize the safety, compliance, and reliability of our designs. Our thorough analysis and assessment processes enable us to deliver robust and efficient solutions that meet the stringent requirements of the Sydney and Melbourne Metro tunnels.
