Sydney Metro Tunnel Cable Supports

ABA Structures has performed engineering studies for Burndy Cable Support System Pty Ltd. The study includes several different types of bracketed supports to be bolted on the tunnel concrete lining. The brackets have to satisfy harsh loading conditions, including:

  • Weight of cables and ladders.
  • Wind pressure of 1500 Pa due to the train passage.
  • Wind fatigue under the cyclic load of 750 Pa under approximately four million train passings.
  • Earthquake load in the tunnel.

All requirements of anchorage and ultimate stress design are satisfied in the design. The following images are FEA output stresses of some of the brackets.
