A Special Structure: The Quadrant

Project: Quadrant Structure

Client: Shelf Subsea (Caldive)

Function: Hauling subsea data cable line from the installation vessel into the riser and up to the Wheatstone platform.

The Quadrant Structure, responsible for efficiently guiding and supporting the subsea data cable line during its installation, was meticulously designed by ABA Structures. This structure, composed of a robust steel skeleton, incorporates a set of horizontal flanges that enable 360-degree fine-tuning capabilities. This adaptability was crucial, considering the highly congested deck area with various equipment present during the cable installation process.

To withstand the significant forces exerted by the 3.5-tonne tensioned cable on its rollers in two perpendicular planes, the structure was engineered with exceptional strength and stability. ABA Structures meticulously analyzed and designed the Quadrant Structure to ensure it could handle these forces effectively, ensuring the smooth operation of hauling the cable.

The successful testing of the Quadrant Structure in June 2016 signifies its reliability and performance. Through rigorous testing, it has demonstrated its capability to withstand the anticipated loads and forces, providing the necessary support for the subsea data cable line.

ABA Structures takes pride in delivering robust and innovative solutions that meet the specific needs of clients like Shelf Subsea (Caldive). The Quadrant Structure’s design showcases ABA Structures’ expertise in engineering reliable and efficient structures for demanding offshore applications
